Today we head out for our first extended trip in the "Horny Toad", our new Airstream Classic. We'll be gone for 6 weeks and the ultimate destination is Palm Springs, California to watch a few days of the BNP Paribas tennis tournament (Indian Wells).
Our day to day travel plan is drastically different than past RV trips. We would routinely get ourselves into grinding drives of 500 miles (or even more) daily. No more. We want to average more like 200 miles a day and keep it nice and easy. We also will stay in places longer.
The path out to Palm Springs is:
- Austin to Fredericksburg for 2 night stay
- Fort Stockton for 1 night
- El Paso for 1 night (hey ... Texas is a huge state ok?)
- Lordsburg, NM for 1 night
- Bissbee, AZ for 3 nights (and Valentines day)
- Tucson for a week
- Sedona for a week
- Palm Springs for 2 weeks
We'll return at a quicker pace, because I want to get up to Breckenridge for the last 3 weeks of ski season!
It starts now! Figures that there is a "Red Flag" warning in the area today ... which means high winds. Wouldn't have it any other way.
