Who would've guessed that the Texas peach country turned into the Texas wine country? For all of you giving us shit for only driving 90 miles on Day 1, we were rewarded with some fairly decent wine. Yes, we are a little snobbish when it comes to wine, but the two wineries we went today were quite excellent.
First was Becker Vineyards where the Malbec was the highlight.
Second was Torre di Pietra where all were excellent & the names were spectacular. We couldn't resist from taking home a bottle of both the "Dirty Girl" and the "Midnight Nymph". We also met Ben Maxwell who spent 30 minutes giving us a personalized overview of the winery. He said if there was one bottle to grab on the way out of the fire, it would be "The Flirt"! It gets bottled in March.
Fantastic start to the trip. On to some back to back driving days for the next few days. Sometimes those can be the most interesting. I'll never forget the Colorado Springs stopover 10 years ago.
